Advanced Engineering Technology Research : Driver of the Future Industry 4.0
Held biennially, the Engineering Technology International Conference 2018 (ETIC 2018) is the third international conference organized by the Faculty of Engineering Technology from the Malaysia Technical University Network (MTUN).
This conference is a continuation of the successful ETIC 2015 and ETIC 2016, previously organized by UMP and UniMAP, respectively. For this year, UTeM has been appointed as the official host of ETIC 2018.
This conference provides the platform to collectively emphasize the concept of conservation and sharing of knowledge and engineering expertise from various fields to carry out academic activities based on research and publication.

Mohd Nasir Taib received his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tasmania, Australia, MSc in Control Engineering from Sheffield University, UK, and PhD in Instrumentation from UMIST, UK. Currently, he is a Senior Professor and Dean of The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
He heads the Advanced Signal Processing Research Group at the faculty, carrying out many researches in Control System, Process, Biomedical Engineering, Energy Studies, Optical Fiber Sensors and Nonlinear Systems. Over the years, together with his co-researchers and postgraduate students, he had author and/or co-author many papers published in refereed journals and conferences. He has been awarded twice as the Best Researcher in UiTM (2003 and 2005) and received many national and international awards, and patents for his research and inventions. Google Scholar ranks him with an h-index of 24 and a total citations of more than 3,000. In SCOPUS, he is ranked with an h-index of 17 with a total citations of more than 1,400.
He is a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), registered with The Board Engineer Malaysia (BEM), and also a certified Professional Technologist (P.Tech.) registered with The Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT). He has been very active Senior Member (SMIEEE) of The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Inc., USA (IEEE), and also members of The IEEE Malaysia chapters of Industrial Electronics Society, Control Systems Society, Instrumentation and Measurement and Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society. He was the Chair of IEEE Control Society of Malaysia 2007-2017 and the Chair of the IEEE Malaysia for 2007-2008. He is the Advisor of the Malaysian Society for Automatic Control Engineers (MACE).
Prof. Hiroyuki Sasahara graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1988, and obtained PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 1996 from Tokyo Institute of Technology. He is presently Professor in department of Mechanical Systems Engineering at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. Currently, he is the Director of the Center of Design and Manufacturing. He has been involved in the field of the development and analytical prediction of machining processes as follow :
- Fabrication of metal parts with wire and arc based additive manufacturing
- High through put machining of difficult to cut materials
- Development of advanced cutting and grinding process
- Analytical modeling and prediction of machining process
Some of the output had been applied for the industry. He also carried out his research work as a visiting professor at Center for Precision Metrology, University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2000-2001.

A quaint city with an abundance of breathtaking sights and rich heritage, Malacca is easy to get around on foot or trishaw to explore the many places that make it unique. As the unofficial historic capital of Malaysia, Malacca’s most prominent contribution to the Malaysian cultural landscape is the Baba-Nyonya or Peranakan culture. Possessing an eclectic blend of customs, traditions, food and lifestyle, the Peranakan still thrives in Malacca with a mix of old and new with historical buildings standing side by side with ultra modern shopping centres. From Ayer Keroh’s lush greenery to the Malacca City’s urban landscape, we have found our top ten places in Malacca that no visitor should leave out on their travel itinerary.
